In Response to Forecast for Heavy Rain, Sarasota County to Open Sandbag Locations

In response to the National Weather Service's forecast for up to 12 inches of rain over the next several days, self-service sandbags will be offered to Sarasota County residents today, Aug. 22, from 3-7 p.m., and Friday, Aug. 23, from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.. Bags and sand will be provided while supplies last, and individuals are asked to bring their own shovels. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.

Sarasota County staff are monitoring areas that are prone to flooding, especially in the wake of Hurricane Debby, which wrought more than $100 million in damage, caused major flooding and resulted in more than 700 water rescues throughout both Sarasota and Manatee counties.
County leadership says it will continue to coordinate with local municipalities and the National Weather Service to receive updates on expected weather in our area.
