"Cancer research is working," says the legendary college basketball announcer, "but more is needed to develop the more targeted therapies of the future."
To date, Dick Vitale has raised $37 million for pediatric cancer, and his foundation has distributed more than $55 million in pediatric cancer research grants.
The honorees at this year's gala are Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, Gonzaga University head coach Mark Few and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith.
For the past 22 years, Dick and Lorraine Vitale have donated $5,000 each year to be distributed to deserving members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County.
