The Sarasota County Commission on Tuesday directed the county attorney to begin negotiations with interim county administrator Jonathan Lewis to hire Lewis as the next permanent county administrator. The commission voted unanimously in August to designate Lewis, then the assistant county administrator, as interim administrator upon the departure of former administrator Tom Harmer, who left the job last week. Harmer was selected to serve as the next Longboat Key town manager.
