After months of inaction, Congress on Thursday approved $1.1 billion in federal funding to fight the Zika virus. Florida is the only state in the nation to have confirmed mosquito-to-human transmission of the disease; 921 people have contracted the disease across the state, including 92 pregnant women. The funding bill will next move to the desk of President Obama for his approval. As far back as Feb. 22, the Obama administration had requested $1.9 billion in funding to fight the virus.
