Three Comforting Cocktails to Make While You Wait for Election Results

Your ballot has been cast and there's nothing to do but wait for the results to come in. Make one of these drinks to mellow out in the meantime.

Thinking of fleeing to a remote island because of the 2020 election? Consider making a simple, classic Daiquiri instead.

Sarasota's State Street Eating House + Cocktails has a variety of classic and modern drinks for the many moods you might feel on election day. Here are some of their top recommendations for a patriotic sip:

Bramble

One of State Street's most popular drinks, the Bramble has the tartness of lemon and the sweetness of blackberry, with a dark blue hue.

3 blackberries, muddled
2 oz. gin
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
0.75 oz. simple syrup
0.5 oz. créme de mure

Muddle the blackberries in a separate bowl or glass. Add ingredients to a shaker and shake with ice. Strain ingredients into a chilled glass over crushed ice. Pour créme de mure on top. Garnish and serve.

Old Fashioned

A classic drink with bitter citrusy and red cherry flavors, this will keep bitter feelings at bay.

2 oz. bourbon
0.25 oz. simple syrup
3 drops orange bitters
3 drops Angostura bitters
Garnish with Maraschino cherry and orange rind

Pour ingredients into a chilled glass with ice and stir gently until mixed. Garnish with cherry and orange rind and serve.

Daiquiri

If waiting for the results is making you want to jet to a private island, try sitting down with a simple Daiquiri.

2 oz. rum
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. fresh lime juice

Pour ingredients into a chilled shaker with ice and shake. Pour drink into chilled, stemmed glass and serve.
