Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us are ordering food for takeout or delivery way more frequently than we used to. Now one of the most popular food delivery services in the area is hoping to hire more drivers to meet that demand. Bite Squad announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 200 new workers in Sarasota.

Bite Squad works with hundreds of local restaurants. The company is a subsidiary of Waitr, a Louisiana-based company. As restaurants around the country have struggled because of the pandemic, Waitr's earnings have gone up. The company's revenue for the second quarter of this year totaled $60.5 million, up nearly 18 percent from the year before.

In Sarasota, the company wants to bring on 200 new drivers as independent contractors. Applicants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and a smart phone. Bite Squad provides masks, gloves and sanitation spray to all its drivers and offers no-contact delivery for all orders.
