As Tropical Storm Cristobal made its way through the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend, heavy rain, high winds and tall waves cracked a portion of Casey Key roadway that runs along the Gulf.

According to Sarasota County, the damage occurred near 712 N. Casey Key Road, Osprey. The road remains closed at that spot. Repairs are expected to begin today if what the county calls "favorable sea conditions" prevail. The county is asking residents to avoid the area as much as possible.

Cristobal, now downgraded to a tropical depression, is currently centered in Louisiana. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association is predicting it will continue traveling north.
