Sarasota Magazine is seeking to hire a Deputy Art Director to assist the Creative Director and share in design and production of our flagship title and custom publications, and all related print and digital content. The Deputy Art Director is part of the editorial design team and reports directly to the Creative Director. The editorial design team is responsible for six annual issues, as well as multiple custom publications and digital products. The Deputy Art Director needs to be able to identify and design within the established editorial style.

Essential Duties

Supporting and assisting Editor and Creative Director.

Meeting tight deadlines according to product, ranging from daily digital art to bimonthly print magazine.

Designing and producing original print creative within an established editorial style.

Designing and delivering engaging site imagery.

Producing brief After Effects animations for social media.

Establishing relationships and managing assignments with photographers and illustrators.

Managing projects and working within established budgets.

File managing, color correcting and creating print-ready PDFs for the printer.

Creating flipbooks with hyperlinks for digital publications.

Illustrating custom art or graphics for print and digital application.

Creating infographics to illustrate statistics or concepts.

Participating in tutorials and learning opportunities to stay current and relevant to the changing technology within the field.

Helpful Qualifications

Degree in graphic design or related field.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis placed on InDesign and Photoshop. Proficiency with Illustrator and After Effects are also encouraged.

Strong understanding of typography, color and layout.

A flexible and proactive attitude to adapt to demanding business needs.

A detail-oriented, well-organized, disciplined team player.
