Rudy Bundy

Debonair clarinetist Rudy Bundy brought his 12-piece big band to Sarasota in 1940 and quickly became the musical soundtrack of the ’40s and 1950s. Bundy and his band performed for years in the glamorous M’Toto Room at the John Ringling Hotel, entertaining visiting luminaries like Betty Hutton and Dorothy Lamour, who were in Sarasota for the filming of The Greatest Show on Earth. And he was a mainstay in the grand ballroom at the city-owned Lido Casino on Lido Beach. Both the hotel and the casino are sadly defunct, but Bundy and his big band live on in the memories of old-timers who danced to their swing-era sounds.
