Heading to the beach this weekend? Be sure to check water quality advisories before you do.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) has issued a water quality advisory for North Lido Beach (50 Benjamin Franklin Drive) due to high levels of enterococcus bacteria that don't meet recreational water quality criteria and exceeds levels established by state guidelines.

DOH-Sarasota is currently advising against any water-related activities at North Lido due to an increased risk of illness for swimmers. Enterococcus bacteria can cause skin rashes, eye and ear infections and respiratory issues; if consumed, side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and urinary tract infections.

The advisory will continue until bacteria levels are below the accepted health level. Test results are available here.
