The Perseids meteor shower is one of the most prolific and impressive meteor showers of the year, known for producing bright, fast-moving meteors across the night sky.

"To photograph this year's shower, I headed to Lido Beach around midnight on Thursday morning, hoping the darker skies and open horizon would provide the perfect conditions," says photographer Damon Powers. "Looking west, I was fortunate enough to capture a meteor streaking across the sky alongside the Milky Way."

The moment was the result of more than two hours of waiting, watching and photographing, Powers says. "I took hundreds of photos throughout the night, but only one captured the timing and composition I had been hoping for," he says. "It was a lucky moment and one that made the long night on the beach worth it."
