After losing 33,000 jobs in September, largely due to damage caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the American economy added 261,000 jobs during the month of October, according to new numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday. The unemployment rate declined slightly, from 4.2 to 4.1 percent. Employment in food services and drinking places increased sharply in October, and employment also rose in professional and business services, manufacturing and health care, according to the bureau.
