The American economy lost 33,000 jobs during the month of September, largely due to job losses caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, according to new Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Friday. "A sharp employment decline in food services and drinking places and below-trend growth in some other industries likely reflected the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey," the bureau said in a statement. The unemployment rate actually decreased by 0.2 percentage point, to 4.2 percent, despite the job losses.
