National Geographic recently ranked the North Port, Sarasota and Bradenton area as the 14th happiest region in the country. To compile the list, researchers examined statistics related to healthy eating, lifelong education, civic engagement, financial security, vacation time and dental checkups. The No. 1 city in the country was Boulder, Colorado, followed by Santa Cruz, California, and Charlottesville, Virginia. The Naples, Immokalee and Marco Island area was the only other region in Florida to make the top 25; it was ranked as the nation's 11th happiest region.
