Stephen Leatherman, popularly known as "Dr. Beach," announced Thursday that he ranks Siesta Beach as the country's No. 1 beach. In announcing the honor, Leatherman cited Siesta Beach for having "the finest, whitest sand in the world, which attracts sand collectors and beach lovers from all over." Also, "the clear, clean waters along this gently-sloping beachface make for ideal swimming," according to Leatherman. Two other Florida beaches were named in Leartherman's list of the top 10 beaches.
