There’s a new bagel place heading to south Siesta Key, on Midnight Pass Road in the Southbridge Mall shopping plaza. Bungalow Bagels will offer imported New York bagels, coffee and assorted baked goods.

Owner Rob DiSilvio (who also owns Casa Masa) has been testing his products for the last year before settling on bagels from Utopia Bagels, which has locations in midtown Manhattan, Long Island City and on Long Island.

“We tried and tested hundreds of bagels and found that Utopia’s are amazing when they are overnighted. They maintain the texture that a good bagel needs to have,” DiSilvio says.

Bungalow will serve its bagels alongside six different schmear flavors, in breakfast sandwiches, with lox or stuffed with chopped ingredients like assorted deli meats, lettuce, onions and tomato, so each bite offers an explosion of flavor.

“We’re also going to serve Kona coffee, espresso, lattes and cold brew,” DiSilvio says. “We have this cool coffee canning machine on site, so guests can order whatever they want and we’ll can it for them to take home for later or have at the beach.”

The beach is top of mind for DiSilvio. Originally from The Bronx in New York City, he visited Siesta Key for years before moving here and buying Island House Taqueria in Siesta Village in 2016. He sold his stake in that restaurant, then rebranded Island House's Bee Ridge Road location to Casa Masa. He opened his second Casa Masa location in The Landings in January.

“I’ve always wanted to get back on the key,” he says. “Siesta is the entire reason I moved here from New York. Now I get to fill a void because there’s no bagel place on the island.”

In addition to the shop’s small interior, Bungalow Bagels will share courtyard seating with its neighbor Jake’s Ice Cream. DiSilvio anticipates he’ll open at the end of July; we’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more.
