Imports at the nation’s major retail container ports during the first half of 2017 are expected to increase 4.6 percent over the first half of 2016.

Imports at the nation’s major retail container ports during the first half of 2017 are expected to increase 4.6 percent over the first half of 2016, according to new numbers published last week by the National Retail Federation. Ports covered by the Global Port Tracker report handled roughly 1.58 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units last December, down 3.8 percent from November, but up 10.2 percent from December 2015. One Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit is one 20-foot-long cargo container or its equivalent. January's number was estimated at 1.59 million units, up 6.6 percent from January 2016.
