Employees of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune voted 22-16 in favor of forming a union on Thursday, according to a report published by the newspaper. Last month, employees there signed signed cards indicating their desire to form a union and be represented by The Newspaper Guild - Communications Workers of America, which prompted this week's vote. “We are ready to have a voice and a place at the table where decisions affecting our staff and our service to the community are made,” said Herald-Tribune reporter Elizabeth Johnson in a statement published by the paper. “We’re looking forward to exerting that voice through a fair contract.” The Herald-Tribune is owned by New York’s GateHouse Media.
