Sampling several cocktails and picking the best is tough work. Are you up to the task?

The Sarasota-Manatee Originals, a group that represents dozens of local, independent restaurants, is bringing back its Set the Bar cocktail competition in October. The contest will be the culmination of a week of special cocktail events at local restaurants.

The competition will take place at Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota, on Friday, Oct. 15, and will feature 25 different drink makers participating in categories broken down by the type of spirit: vodka, gin, rum, whiskey and tequila. The top drinks will be chosen by a panel of judges, as well as event attendees. Food from local restaurants will also be provided.

Tickets go on sale at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, for $50, and will include a souvenir cocktail glass. Once those sell out, the price will rise to $60. Click here for details.
