Summer Camps Are Still Happening, But Some of Them Will Be Online-Only

Keep your kids busy this summer with these fun virtual and in-person summer camps.

Looking for some ways to keep your little ones busy this summer? Here are some fun arts and outdoors options, some of which will be offered virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sarasota Youth Opera online camp

Sarasota Youth Opera

Learn the ways of the opera with this two-week online camp. Join Sarasota Opera singers and instructors as they teach engaging classes over YouTube and Zoom. Instruction includes singing, acting, makeup, props and more. Lessons take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 8-19. Ages 8-18 can participate and all skills levels are welcomed. No audition required. Tuition is $25 for two weeks. Registration deadline is Monday, May 25. Register here.

The Players Studio Summer Classes

Join The Players as it embarks on a virtual summer class series for all ages. Online musical theater classes offered for ages 7-17 and run from June 1-July 31 . Ages 13-adult can also join acting, singing, dancing and audition etiquette classes, all through Zoom. Classes run from June 1-July 31. Cost is one-time fee of $110. To register, click here

Florida Studio Theatre Camps

Florida Studio Theatre is offering online summer camps this year for ages 4-17. Classes include acting, playwriting, improvisation and more. Camps are broken into sessions by age from June 1 to August 7, ranging from $100 to $200 per session. Camps include Children's Little Theater, Children's Performing Arts Camp and Teen Performing Arts Camp. Scholarships will be offered to children of front-line and essential workers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For registration and more info, click here.

Art Center Sarasota

Weekly art camps will be offered online by Art Center Sarasota this summer. Kids ages 6-18 can participate in projects involving painting and drawing, sculpture, collage and photography, all from home. Choose from the Creative Kids, Emerging Artists or Teen camps, which run from June 29 to August 7. Summer Camp at Nathan Benderson Park

If you are not into the art scene, Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park has planned 10 weeks of water sports, archery and sailing camps for kiddos. Perfect for the outdoor explorer, this program is split between half and full days, for ages 6-14. Learn about kayaking, canoeing, rowing, fishing and more at this fun-filled camp. Out-Of-Door Academy

The Out-Of-Door Academy usually holds sports and academic camps in-person, but has transitioned to an online platform. Register for fun STEM, Lego building or robotics classes, where grades K-5 and 6-8 will learn about science, technology and engineering, while building cool projects. Camps run from June 2-July 30 and include virtual lessons from ODA teachers and hands-on activities to do at home. Register here by Monday, June 1. 

Circus Arts Conservatory

If your kid dreams of becoming a circus performer, this in-person summer camp at Circus Arts Conservatory will make summer even better. Ages 6-15 can learn to swing from a trapeze, juggle, acrobatics with silks and much more. The weekly camp's tentative opening is Monday, July 6, as per COVID-19 guidelines, and will run until August 7. Cost is $325 per week and $650 for two weeks. Register here. Kids Golf Academy at Laurel Oak

The Kids Golf Academy at Laurel Oak Country Club is offering week-long summer camps for ages 5-14. Choose from morning or day-long camps running from Monday, June 1 to Friday, August 7. Kids will learn the fundamentals of golf from trained coaches and have fun in a positive, outdoor environment. Register here. Located at 2700 Gary Player Blvd, Sarasota. 

USF Sarasota-Manatee Virtual Tech Camps

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus is partnering with iD Tech to provide online coding, gaming and robotics classes for kids and teens. This STEM camp is number one in the world, and right in our backyard. Learn from live online classes and instructors specializing in Minecraft, Adobe, Python, Java and other computer software. Kids can work together on virtual projects and make new friends. Weekly camps run from June 1-August 21. Cost starts at $399. Register here

SURFIT USA Paddleboard Summer Camp

Surf's up at SURFIT USA's paddleboard and surf camp right here in Sarasota. Sign up for group classes like basics of paddleboarding, surfing and ocean safety. Camps are located at Lido Key Beach, Lido Mangrove Tunnels or Turtle Beach on Siesta Key. Certified lifeguards and surf instructors teach kids daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Camps run from July 13-August 7. Summer Fun at the Sarasota Ballet   

The Sarasota Ballet School is offering a virtual, weekly camp for ages 3-12. Students will learn the basics of ballet and participate in themed classes with online instruction from June 1-June 26. New students welcome week one through week four. Sarasota Ballet School students only for week five. Cost is $50 per family for the first registered session and $25 per family for additional sessions. Register here.  

At-Home Projects with Camp KiwiCo 

If your kid loves to build and get creative, Camp KiwiCo's "camp in a crate" is a great option. Register to receive weekly themed crates in the mail, filled with fun DIY art projects, building projects and creative challenges. Cost is $25-$30 per crate. Free online content for each project is also available for ages 3-9. Camp begins June 22 and is available all summer long. Register here.    

Sarasota Film Festival Summer Camp for Kids

Sarasota Film Festival is going virtual this summer with its exciting film camp for students ages 8-14. This online curriculum will give kids the opportunity to film, write, produce and edit their own projects with the help of film festival staff. Kids will engage in live video sessions, collaborate on film projects and share their finished projects on the camp's YouTube channel. Weekly camps begin Monday, June 1 and run until June 19, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $175 per week. Register here.  

Sarasota Crew Summer Camp

Rowers of all skill levels are invited to join Sarasota Crew's summer camps and clinics. Students ages 9-18 will learn the fundamentals of rowing, working with a team and learning from crew staff. Choose from three sessions running from June 15 to August 7. Camps are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $250 for a two week session. Register here. Asolo Rep Theatre Classes 

The Asolo Rep has created the Young Artists program, a series of live, online classes where kids can explore the world of theater. Ages 11-18 can choose from two sessions, where they will improve acting skills, learn improvisation and build creativity. Ages 13-18 can also learn monologues and participate in virtual performances at the end of each camp. Session one runs from June 1- June 12, and session two runs from June 18-July 23. Cost ranges from $50-$75 per class and student. Register here.     

Sarasota County's Outdoor Exploration Program

Join the University of Florida's Sarasota County extension with this free "4-H Outdoor InvestiGATOR" webinar series. Kids ages 8-11 will log into online sessions once a week, where they will learn how to search for animals, insects and plants living right outside their door. Share ideas and findings about land and sea animals with fellow classmates and University of Florida staff. Classes are offered in two sessions, Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. from June 2-July 7. 4-H and non-4-H youth are welcome. Register here.    

Science Camp at the Bishop Museum

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature is offering a four-week, in-person camp for students grades 2-5. Kids will discover various topics through experiments, fun games and The Bishop's exhibitions. Camp themes include sharks, the science behind crime solving, electricity and more. Camps run from June 22-July 17. Arts A Blaze stART Summer Camp

Art A Blaze painting studio on Main Street, Lakewood Ranch is offering an in-person arts camp for ages 6 and up. Kids will learn ceramics, collage, paper crafting, mixed media painting and clay building while having fun with friends. Join classes every weekday in June from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Camps begin Monday, June 1. Cost is $170 per week and $38 for a daily drop-in class. Register here. Trautwein's ATA Martial Arts Camp

Become a martial arts master with this action-packed summer camp at Trautwein's ATA Martial Arts. Kids ages 5-13 can join daily activities like dodgeball, arts and crafts, jumping pads, martial arts instruction and more. Pizza party Fridays and ice cream Thursdays are also included. Weekly dates offered Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., from June 1-August 7. Cost is $190 for members and $200 for non-members. Drop-in rates available. Register here. Tennis and Sports Camp at Lakewood Ranch Country Club

Have some fun in the sun at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club's tennis and sports camps. Kids ages 4-12 will join fun activities like tennis, swimming, group sports and arts and crafts, all on country club grounds. Camps run 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday, from June 4 to August 10. Summer Camp at the Fab Lab

Get your brain in gear this summer at the Suncoast Science Center Fab Lab's in-person camps. Students in elementary and middle school can join various coding, chemistry, robotics and STEM camps all run by former Fab Lab students. Choose from the Explorer Camp for grades 2-3, the STEAM Squad camp for grades 4-5 and the Middle School Masterclass for grades 6-8. Camps run weekly from June 1-July 31. Cost is $200 per camp. Camp Create with Lipstick Lex  

Learn how to create beautiful visual art with international artist Lipstick Lex. Ages 6-12 can join weekly camps with different themed classes from art in movies, to visual arts with music and calming crafts. Camps run from June 23 to July 30, Tuesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Class size limited with CDC guidelines for health and safety in place. Cost is $150 per week. Register here. Sarasota County Parks and Recreation

Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources has announced its registration for summer day camps begins Monday, June 8. Grades 1-5 can enjoy camps at north county parks and grades 1-6 at south county parks. Kids will participate in field trips, weekly activities, sports, creative arts and science and nature activities. Specialty camps will also be offered weekly. Camp dates run from June 29 to July 31. Art & Soul Dance Company

Join Art & Soul Dance Company in Lakewood Ranch's super summer camp. Kids ages 4-12 can join weekly camps starting now until Friday, August 7. Each of the ten week camps will feature a different fun theme, like mermaids and unicorns, Disney, Footloose and more. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Drama Kids Sarasota-Manatee Online Camps

Stay entertained this summer with Drama Kids International online summer camps. The Sarasota-Manatee Drama Kids chapter will be offering online classes from Tuesday, June 9 to Thursday, July 16. Classes will be held online with drama instructors and teach kids about comedy, musical theater, improvisation and character building. Each camp will culminate in a virtual performance for family and friends. Camps available for ages 7-11 and 11-18. Cost varies from $99-$150 per camp. Register here.
