Are you a fitness buff that also likes to drink? Well, you can have the best of both worlds at a fun St. Patrick's Day-themed bar crawl this Saturday. Move through downtown Sarasota's bar scene completing fitness challenges and earning points to win special prizes at the end.

The crawl is hosted by Sarasota fitness event company Green Beret Fitness, which opened in 2020; it was founded by former British army officer Gregg McLeod. Green Beret Fitness uses military training tactics to bring people together over the love of fitness, teamwork and discipline.

This crawl, called Operations in Built Up Areas (O.B.U.A) Shamrock, will be fun for everyone, McLeod says.

To begin, check in at the first bar, Raffurty's Bar and Grill, at 10:30 a.m. Then hit up a variety of checkpoints around town and complete fitness challenges given at each location. Take a selfie at each spot and tag @green_beret_fitness on Instagram to keep track of points earned. Then, chill out and enjoy beer and drink specials at each bar. When the crawl is complete, stick around for a St. Patrick's Day costume contest and win prizes.

Not interested in the fitness part? McLeod says anyone can still come out and have a great time.

"The event is set up so that everyone can dress up in their green, stroll around town and drink at cool spots in Sarasota, spending as much time as they want at each bar," McLeod says.

"I've hosted similar events in Utah, Ohio and California, but more urban and sunny spots, like here in Sarasota, are always the most fun," he continues. "The challenges are short and competitive, but you can stay out as long as you want to drink."

Operation in Built Up Areas Shamrock will take place Saturday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., starting at 1888 Main St., Sarasota. Tickets are $60 per person. Register here.
