The City of Sarasota was recently awarded a $55,000 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services grant that will allow the city to create an inventory of trees, identify diseased and dangerous trees, and plant new trees in low-income areas. The grant will last for three years. In year one, staff will gather information on 2,000 trees in the city. In year two, a plan will be developed to identify trees to be removed. And in year three, 115 native Florida trees will be purchased and planted.
