Manasota ASALH Raises $100,000 for Scholarship Program

Plus, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County awards $191,985 in grant funding to 15 animal welfare nonprofits, and more.

The Manasota Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) recently raised approximately $100,000 for the 2026 Manasota Scholarship Program during its inaugural Black History Month Scholarship Luncheon.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently awarded $191,985 in grant funding to 15 nonprofits that provide care and rehabilitation to wild and domestic animals. The foundation also recently awarded a total of $163,300 in Capacity Building grants to 21 nonprofits in a wide variety of fields, from day shelter services for the homeless to environmental conservation and restoration.

United Way Suncoast has received a $147,132 grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation to support its Quality Childcare initiative and Financial Wellness at Work program.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Fund at Manatee Community Foundation recently approved a series of grants totaling $92,820 for Bradenton-based nonprofits to support projects that bring people together through public spaces, the arts, and engagement in civic life. The nonprofits are Realize Bradenton ($45,000), Friendly City Foundation ($20,000), Reflections of Manatee ($15,000), and the Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative ($12,820).

Sarasota's Service Dogs Saving Lives raised more than $47,000 at its “A Night of Hope” fundraising dinner. 

Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota recently awarded 100 St. Scholastica grants totaling $25,000 to full-time K-12 teachers in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Florida Studio Theatre recently received a $10,000 grant from the Golisano Foundation.
