Selby Foundation Awards Nearly Half a Million in Hurricane Relief Funds

Plus, the Hermitage raised $380,000 at its annual Artful Lobster lunch, and more.

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has awarded $499,424 in capital funds to support human service-focused nonprofit organizations impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Selby Gardens has announced that it has raised two-thirds, or 66 percent, of funds required for Phase Two of its master plan, and $103 million raised for the entire project. The capital goal for Phase Two stands at $60.9 million. Of that, $40.3 million has now been raised, with 99 percent of all funds for the master plan campaign coming from private philanthropy.

The Hermitage Artist Retreat raised more than $380,000 at the 2024 Hermitage Artful Lobster luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 9. This annual event raises funds for the Hermitage’s artist residency program. Proceeds from this year’s event are also going toward hurricane recovery efforts for the Hermitage’s Manasota Key campus. 

Manatee Community Foundation has awarded nearly $250,000 in critical grants through its Disaster Relief Fund following the recent hurricanes. The funds support recovery efforts, rebuild essential facilities, and deliver aid to vulnerable families and individuals.

The Patterson Foundation will provide a $250,000 contribution to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund. The gift will strengthen CDP’s support for medium- and long-term recovery efforts in communities in the months and years following severe storms.

The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) was awarded $90,000 from the McCune Family Foundation to support their mission of the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse.

The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation and local Tampa Bay Dunkin’ franchisees presented a total of $65,000 in grants to five local organizations in the greater Tampa Bay area, including Suncoast Charities for Children, which  received $10,000 to provide 2,000 meals for 1,039 at-risk preschool children over 12 months. 

Resurrection House, Inc. has been awarded a $7,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, which will allow Resurrection House to upgrade its giving platform, streamline donation management, automate tasks and strengthen relationships with its of supporters.

CareerEdge Funders Collaborative has announced that Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has been awarded $40,000 to support workforce upskilling initiatives. 

The Florida Center for Early Childhood recently received a charitable gift of $10,000 from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. The funds will go towards the purchase of furniture for Starfish Academy, the organization’s early education program.

Choral Artists of Sarasota has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. This grant will go toward the production of Choral Artists' performance of Considering Matthew Shepard, a musical about the life and legacy of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man who was tragically murdered in Wyoming in 1998.

Publix Super Markets has donated $12,500 to the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program to help families in Sarasota and Manatee counties struggling with food insecurity this holiday season.

Asolo Repertory Theatre has received an $85,000 Strategic Partnership grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. This grant is designated for Asolo Rep's season mainstage productions, Access to the Arts programming and the annual Director’s Take luncheon.

Tidewell Foundation's annual Remembrance Walk recently raised more than $60,000 for patients and families served by Tidewell Hospice.

Parenting Matters, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for families in Manatee and Sarasota counties through parenting education and support, has been awarded a $10,000 donation from Anderson & Associates Insurance Group, thanks to the Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance 2024 "Make More Happen" awards program. 

Neal Communities has made a $1,000 donation to Sugar's Gift, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing in-home euthanasia for terminally ill pets.
