Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced that the Florida Department of Revenue will pro-rate property taxes for homeowners who lost their residences because of Hurricane Helene

That's the result of a state law that the governor signed in 2022, in the wake of Hurricane Ian, to allow property owners to apply for property tax refunds if their homes were uninhabitable for 30 days or more. With their applications, residents are required to provide supporting documentation, which includes utility bills, insurance information, contractors’ statements, building permit applications or building inspection certificates of occupancy.

To apply for a refund, submit an Application for Catastrophic Event Tax Refund to the county property appraiser before March 1, 2025.
