Photo: A Young Father Pushing a Baby Stroller Through Sarasota Trailer Park, 1946

Post-Depression years in Sarasota didn't look bad at all for this young family, thanks in part to the Tin Can Tourist Convention of 1938.

This Father's Day weekend, we're looking back at a new father, Al Stickles, walking with his wife, Roe, and their child through the Sarasota Trailer Park in 1946.

The popularity of Sarasota Trailer Park was born out of the Tin Can Tourists, who were attracted to the area during and in spite of The Great Depression. The Tin Can Tourist Convention of 1938 drew more than 3,000 visitors to the Payne Park area, where they spent money that stimulated a suffering economy during the worst years of the Depression. This photo and other images like this were likely used to show how federal and state programs worked to enable a life of leisure and pleasure, personified in a young family enjoying a beautiful day in Sarasota.
