The Gulf Coast Community Foundation Donates $60,000 for Wellfield Park Project

Plus, more donations for local arts groups, educational programs and more.

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation board of directors approved a $60,000 grant from the Venice Endowment Fund to support field renovations at Wellfield Park in Venice. The partnership with the City of Venice and Sarasota County will allow for the restoration of soccer fields and Letson Stadium Football Field.

ArtCenter Manatee received $1 million gifts from the Floyd C. and Flo Singer Johnson Foundation and the Manatee Tourist Development Council. The gifts will go toward the center's Transforming Lives and Building Community campaign, which is raising money for a new 28,000-square-foot building for the center.

The Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation has granted $5,000 to the Library Foundation for Sarasota County to fund an educational music garden at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library in Venice. The interactive installation will include life-size instruments and provide a year-round venue for early literacy programming.

Neal Land & Neighborhoods organized a community-wide food drive at North River Ranch in support of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. A $2,500 check and 550 pounds of food items were donated through the community developer's Pay It Forward program. With this donation, the organization will provide 2,500 meals and serve more than 80 families.

The Education Foundation of Sarasota County has announced two Suncoast Credit Union Scholarship recipients. The $2,000 one-time scholarships were awarded to high school seniors Abigail Koester and Diana "Nicole" Valero, who plan to attend the University of Florida and University of South Florida, respectively, in the fall.

CareerEdge—a workforce development program from Sarasota's Chamber of Commerce—has received $25,000 from Bank of America to expand its Bridges to Careers training program and on-the-job training. This is the latest support the bank has provided CareerEdge in a 12-year partnership to strengthen workforce opportunities in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
