The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the Birds of Paradise Sanctuary & Rescue, a safe haven for abused or unwanted exotic birds regardless of species, age, special needs or behavioral issues. 

The funding provided a portion of the money needed to fully remodel an existing building, which will be used as an emergency veterinary intake and adoption center. The new space will enable the group to increase the volume of birds that they can help and provide a welcoming environment to interact with the birds during the adoption process. A grand opening open house is planned for Dec. 11 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
