Looking to Give Back This Thanksgiving? Here Are Five Events That Help Those in Need.

A number of nonprofits are hosting food and toy drives this season.

Someone nearby is always in need of a warm cooked meal and gifts for their loved ones. Here is a list of events happening around Sarasota that provide families in need with food and a bit of holiday cheer, as well as ways you can support them.

All Faiths Food Bank Turkey Distribution

4-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota

This food drive comes courtesy of All Faiths Food Bank, which plans to distribute 12,500 turkeys this holiday season. Families in need can head over to the Ed Smith Stadium, where they will be provided with a turkey for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner. If you'd like to support the mission, you can donate here.

AM and FM Enterprise Community Feast

1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, Sara's Place Day Center, 616 10th St. E., Bradenton

AM and FM Enterprise, Inc., which provides care for the elderly and those with special needs, will host its annual feast on Saturday. The drive-through event will include a free dinner for people in need. You can find ways to donate to or volunteer with AM and FM here.

Meals on Wheels PLUS Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway

4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 1816 Ninth St. W., Bradenton

Families can pick up all they need for a Thanksgiving dinner that feeds six next Monday. A similar holiday dinner giveaway will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20. Learn more about volunteering with Meals on Wheels here, and find out about donating here.

Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day Meal

Noon-1 p.m. Thursay, Nov. 25, 1204 12th St. W., Bradenton

Serving turkeys donated by local residents, the Salvation Army is again offering its community Thanksgiving meal this year. Turkey dinners will be served in to-go trays on Thanksgiving Day. The organization is still accepting donated turkeys. Even if they are not used on Thanksgiving, they will be distributed to those who need them. Learn more here.

Toys for Tots

Through Sunday, Nov. 28

Volunteers with Toys for Tots, a project of the the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve, will collect new toys and deliver the gifts to kids in need during the holiday season. To apply for assistance, or to learn how to volunteer with or support the event, click here.
