Florida gas prices unexpectedly jumped 10 cents last week, according to AAA, hitting a new 2021 high of $3.10 per gallon—7 cents more than the previous high set in early August. Crude oil and gasoline futures prices also rose, with the price of crude oil increasing 4 percent last week due to reports that Gulf of Mexico energy infrastructure is still recovering from Hurricane Ida.

Florida drivers are paying 96 cents more than this time last year. The cost to fill an average-sized 15-gallon tank of gas is now $46.50 ($14.40 more than a year ago). At this time in 2019, the cost for a gallon of gas was $2.50, which amounted to a total of $37.50 for a fill-up, according to AAA.
