The groundbreaking ceremony for Selby Gardens' downtown Sarasota campus Master Plan has been set for Thursday, June 3 after final approval from the Sarasota city commission. So far, the gardens has raised $35 million toward Phase 1 of its Master Plan campaign, called "Innovating a Greener Future"; its ultimate Phase 1 goal is $42.5 million.
The goals for the gardens' Master Plan are to add more open space; safeguard and showcase the gardens' scientifically documented collections of orchids and bromeliads; model the latest green-building technology; accommodate a growing visitor base; and connect undeserved families and children to the gardens.
