Florida Sees Strong Growth of Women-Owned Businesses
Florida ranks second in the nation in the growth of women-owned businesses over the past 20 years, seeing an increase of more than 200 percent, according to a new analysis by American Express OPEN. Florida now has more than one million women-owned businesses, employing nearly 500,000 workers. The analysis also showed that the number of women-owned businesses in the United States has more than doubled since the mid-1990s.
The analysis did not include specific data for Sarasota and Manatee counties. But it ranked the Tampa area 11th in growth of number of women-owned firms among the top 50 U.S. metropolitan areas with a 130.7 percent increase over the past 15 years, 29th in growth of jobs created with a 26.2 percent increase and 32nd in growth of firm revenues with a 60 percent increase.
