Back-to-School Spending Expected to Rise

Survey results suggest back-to-college spending will hit an all-time high this year, while back-to-school spending will also increase.

Back-to-college spending is expected to hit an all-time high this year, while back-to-school spending is expected to see its second-highest spending level on record, according to new survey results published by the National Retail Federation. Total spending for school and college combined is projected to reach $83.6 billion, a more than 10 percent increase from last year’s $75.8 billion. Back-to-school spending is predicted to reach $29.5 billion, just below the 2012 record of $30.3 billion, while back-to-college spending is predicted to reach $54.1 billion, a new record.
