Sarasota County last month sued Rhode Island's Gilbane Building Company, alleging that the company performed "defective work" on concrete flooring and walls at Ed Smith Stadium. "Final Completion" on the project was reached in 2013, but "bubbling and cracking" was seen in the flooring and in concrete stairways and sidewalks, according to the county's lawsuit. A filing submitted by Gilbane last week argues that the "any damages" suffered by the county "were in no way caused by Gilbane" and that the company is not liable.
