The Salvation Army's Sarasota Area Command recently received a philanthropic gift of $2.5 million to support its work helping the chronically homeless. The money, donated by Longboat Key's Arnold Simonsen, provides support to The Salvation Army’s Quality of Life By Choice program, which integrates behavioral science with evidence-based best practices of moving persons from homelessness to housing. Simonsen retired from the Chicago area in 2012 and quickly became a supporter of long-term solutions for the homeless.
