Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, recently agreed to serve as honorary chairman for the 2017 World Rowing Championships, which take place at Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park next Sept. 23-Oct. 3. In the role, Buchanan will have the opportunity to attend Local Organizing Committee meetings, during which he may advise and assist committee members. He will also be provided with regular updates about the championships.
