The Sarasota chapter of the Military Officers Association of America recently awarded $2,000 scholarships to five local students: Aravind Byju, Keaton Clark, Vada Hammons, Robert Hodgson and Dakota Stoble. Two more students, Kathryn Beck and Cassandra Golembeski, are set to receive their scholarships this month.

Goodwill Manasota and The Law Place have teamed up with David Taylor Photography and Cutting Loose Salon to honor area women veterans with the Salute the Runway Fashion Show and Dinner, featuring women veterans walking the runway in Goodwill fashions. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, at the Goodwill Manasota corporate campus, 2705 51st Ave. E., Bradenton. Eleven area veterans—including Goodwill Manasota's director of its veterans services program, C.J. Bannister—will be featured in the fashion show. Tickets are $75. Click here for more info.

On Friday, Sept. 16, Community Youth Development and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County will present their 11th annual Leadership Breakfast, celebrating community members who support youth as leaders in our community. The honorees this year are Congressman Vern and Sandy Buchanan, and Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Lori White. The event takes place at the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club, 3100 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
