USF Professor Wins Women's Research Award

Melissa Sloan’s writings are required reading at some graduate programs.

Melissa Sloan, an associate professor of interdisciplinary social sciences at USF Sarasota-Manatee, recently won the USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Faculty Research Award. The honor, which comes with a $5,000 grant, recognizes research on women’s issues, scholarly discipline and overall contribution to the USF system. Sloan’s writings are required reading at some graduate programs and have been referenced by Time magazine, The Los Angeles Times and National Public Radio. She also mentors undergraduates and oversees the campus’ Honors program.
