Reinventing Reality

Real life isn’t enough for Stephen Barker, whose Digital Frontiers Media develops websites and applications for clients across the country. Barker, 40, is now working on augmented reality, a technology that projects computer-generated graphics into the real world. Initial applications include the yellow first-down marker on football telecasts, but Barker says the potential uses extend far beyond that, from mobile apps (point your phone into the night sky and click to see the moons whizzing around Jupiter) to ad campaigns (see McDonald’s golden arches pop up in the distance) to military training that recreates the feeling of navigating through dense fog . “It’s just magical,” he says. “There is literally no end to the possibilities.”
