A Guy Peterson-designed contemporary residence in Cherokee Park, at the corner of Cherokee Drive and South Osprey Avenue across from Southside Elementary School, has sold for $4.2 million, making it the highest non-waterfront MLS residential sale in Sarasota County to date in 2020. Joel Schemmel of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty represented both the buyer and seller.

Built in 2018, the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath residence at 1775 Cherokee Drive has glass walls that admit views of the tropical landscaping, which was designed by Michael Gilkey. The house was designed around a massive old-growth banyan tree in the front yard, and also has an event lawn, a pollination garden, a bird garden with a preserved lychee tree and a bocce court. Gilkey says he has been notified that he will be winning a 2020 Design Award for the Urban Modern Retreat from the FLASLA at its November convention.

This summer, Murray Homes won Best in Show at the Southeast Builders Conference Aurora Awards for construction of the residence.
