The Zip Codes Where Vaccination Rates Are Highest
With Covid-19 cases on the rise in Florida, questions about vaccinations are growing. Are people getting vaccinated in our state? And do high vaccination rates only reflect that of counties with fewer population numbers?
A map from the New York Times updated on July 14 says Florida is the third-highest state in Covid cases in the U.S., and according to state officials, 23,697 Covid-19 cases were reported over the seven-day period from July 2 to 9. This is a 48 percent increase in weekly cases from the last reporting period, and double the number of weekly cases seen last month.
Here's a breakdown of the top 10 highest vs. lowest vaccination numbers by zip code in the state, and the highest and lowest of Sarasota and Manatee counties. The numbers come from a map by the Tampa Bay Times, which reflects vaccination rates of those who have had at least the first dose as of June 2021. The map's vaccination data comes from the Florida Department of Health. The map's population data come from the U.S. Census Bureau as of 2019. Cases where the number of vaccinated residents is greater than the population estimate are recorded as 100 percent vaccinated.
