At the first signs of the pandemic, nonprofits across Sarasota and Manatee began to pivot and adapt with a dual interest in both serving and surviving. As they ramp up, philanthropists, volunteers and board members can do the same. So says Bob Carter, one of the world’s most prominent experts in institutional strategy and philanthropy, and the founder of the Sarasota-headquartered consultancy Carter.

Sitting in limbo may have damaging consequences to the long-term outlook for the organizations you have come to know and love. The voice and actions of volunteer leaders can play a powerful role in ensuring they emerge from the crisis strong and successful. People want to give more than ever, Carter says, and there are ways we can help them fulfill our human need to connect and make the world a better place.

Moderated by Sarasota Magazine editor in chief Susan Burns, the webinar, April 21, 10-11 a.m., is for anyone who has ever enjoyed or benefited from a local nonprofit – board members, volunteers, donors, members and professionals. How does this crisis compare to other national and global downturns? How should nonprofits be ramping up their programs, communication and fundraising? And what will the prospects for recovery look like in the months ahead? Carter will address these and other key questions.

We’ll also be joined by Marlo Turner, senior vice president of philanthropy for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Turner will talk about the foundation’s Giving Challenge April 28-29 and the difference it can make to thousands of people in Sarasota and Manatee.
