A new restaurant is scheduled to open inside the downtown Sarasota hotel Art Ovation on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The restaurant, called Tzeva, will feature Israeli-inspired Mediterranean cuisine and will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel guests and locals.

With executive chef Ken Shiro Lumpkin at the helm, the menu will change with the seasons. Lumpkin, who hails from Oakland, California, has worked in Memphis, Jamaica, Japan, New Orleans and Dallas before calling Sarasota his new home.

Lumpkin’s Japanese background also contributes to the flavors of the menu, with the additions of ingredients like nori to the traditional Middle Eastern spice za’atar, which is found in the masabacha hummus and snapper. Shiso leaf (a Japanese herb) will highlight the herbal blend in the chimichurri sauce, featured in the chicken hummus.

Small shareable plates will also feature dishes like toasted feta cheese topped with thyme and honey, as well as a chicken liver paté, flavored with a black garlic gremolata and Turkish chiles called urfa.

Tzeva also promises an inventive beverage program with wines from Greece, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Curated cocktails will also be available, including one called the Sacred Corners, made with inventive ingredients like palo santo-infused tequila and a myriad of tropical fruit.

Tzeva opens on Wednesday, Feb 8. In the Art Ovation Hotel at 1255 North Palm Ave., Sarasota. For more information call (941) 216-0808 or visit their website.
