Unique chocolates from Sarasota's Petals & Sugar.

Banyan Tree Chocolate & Cafe

5170 Palmer Plaza Blvd., Sarasota, (941) 923-2462, banyantreechocolate.com

Grab a box of chocolate truffles at Banyan Tree, where you can buy packages as small as four pieces or as large as 36. The shop is also making heart-shaped chocolates that look more like works of art than food. Order online and have them shipped, or pick them up at the shop.

Dulcefina Candy & Sweets

4221 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, (941) 444-1103, dulcefina.com

This unique Sarasota candy shop carries chocolate treats from all the world. You'll find Belgian pralines, French and Italian truffles, plenty of chocolate-covered nuts and lots of other sweet bombs.

Godiva

Inside The Mall at University Town Center, 298 N. Cattlemen Road, Sarasota, (941) 702-9922, godiva.com

Pop into the University Town Center mall to peruse Godiva's chocolate selection and pick up a box of various flavors, which include sweet, savory and even spicy options. The company recently announced that it is closing all of its North American retail shops, and Sarasota's is set to close later this month, so take advantage before it's gone for good.

Noela Chocolate & Confections

1405 First St., Sarasota, (941) 284-2671, noelachocolate.com

Go crazy at this downtown Sarasota chocolate shop, where you can pick from a huge variety of flavors and gift boxes. Flavors run from fruity (mango, Key lime and "dark blueberry") to nutty, with caramel, butterscotch and vanilla options, too.

Norman Love Confections

192 N. Cattlemen Road, Unit 7, Sarasota, (941) 777-5507, normanloveconfections.com

This new-to-Sarasota store is offering a variety of chocolate gift boxes and bundles for Valentine's Day, and has even whipped up some new flavors like pinot noir, pink Champagne, honey lavender and more.

Petals & Sugar

(941) 224-8286, petalsandsugar.com

Leslie Doerfler makes exquisite-looking sweets in her home kitchen and will deliver them around town for a fee or let you come pick them up for free. For Valentine's Day, she's making a variety of sweets, including "hot cocoa bombs," small chocolates filled with flavors like marshmallow, Oreo and red velvet. If you're a bit more cynical about the Valentine's holiday, opt for a striking  "black heart hot cocoa bomb," flavored with either espresso or dark cherry. Pre-order by end of day on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
