Name

Cyan Pineapple Sour Ale

Type

Sour

Maker

Darwin Brewing Co.

Price

$8 for a 32-ounce crowler

Description

First off, one notices the brilliant aquamarine hue of Darwin's Cyan Pineapple Sour Ale. The unique color is obtained through a brewing process using cyan spirulina, a nutrient-rich plant grown in Florida. Brewer Blue Hellenga says it may be the novel shade that intrigues drinkers to try the medium- to light-bodied sour, but it's the flavor that brings them back for more. With more than 260 Florida pineapples brewed into each batch, a fruity sweetness balances any potential pucker. Made with wheat and pilsner malt for a smooth finish, this tart treat helps tame the summer heat.

Good Food Pairings

Fresh seafood such as oysters, shrimp or grilled fish with a spritz of lemon. Alternatively, balance the tart with a rich, spicy dish, such as stuffed peppers.

Where to Buy

Take-home crowlers can be snagged at Darwin's taproom, but stay tuned for the release of a stylish new 12-ounce can design to be available in a four-pack later this summer. Darwin is located at 803 17th Ave. W., Bradenton. For more info, call (941) 747-1970.
