In a world that's more online than ever before, sometimes turning to nature feels like letting out a big exhale.
The winning photographers in Big Waters Land Trust's (formerly Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast) Summer Photo Contest understand this.
For the sixth year, photographers of all ages and experience levels were invited to submit original work showcasing the beauty of natural Florida. Hundreds of local photographers submitted their images for consideration by jurors and arts professionals Larry Allan, Karen Arango and Darcy Kelly-Laviolette, who in turn evaluated submissions for excellence in composition, color, contrast, point of view and storytelling.
Following the jury's selection of the top 50 images for exhibit, community members were invited to cast their votes by "liking" or "loving" their favorite photographs in Big Waters Summer Photo Contest Facebook gallery. Voting took place from June through Sept. 1; the most liked/loved image in each category was named the People’s Choice winner. Here they are.

“We are so inspired by the creativity of all who submitted photographs and grateful to the community for participating in this celebration of nature,” Tianna Boswell-Porter, acting director of marketing and events at Big Waters Land Trust, said in a release. “The People’s Choice winners are a reflection of the joy and connection people feel with the natural world around them.”
