Venice Theatre Seeking Cabaret Performers

At the moment, VT is planning to stage its summer cabaret festival as usual.

Performer Jason Ellis has submitted an idea for a cabaret called #TheatreLives-Beyond the Screen, a collection of performers who have participated in recent weekly Theatre Lives cabarets coming together to perform live.

For those looking ahead longingly to days of live performances in a theater again—and for performers eager to get back onstage—Venice Theatre is, at the moment at least, planning for its eighth annual Summer Cabaret Festival in July and August, and looking for entertainers.

If social distancing restrictions are lifted to allow group gatherings, VT plans to present selected acts two or three times a week during the run of the festival. Performances have in the past taken place in the intimate Pinkerton Theatre at VT.

Artistic director Allan Kollar is looking for festival performers to submit a brief description of the show; a sample song list; a video highlighting vocal and performance abilities; a performance resume; a headshot; and information on any schedule conflicts between June 15 and Aug. 30.

Further information will be provided when acts are selected to participate, but know that VT will supply the performance space, a piano (and accompanist if needed), microphones, stools and a cocktail table, basic lighting, a stage manager and marketing of the festival as a whole.

Performers are asked to fill out a submission form at venicestage.com/audition. You can also mail a packet to Venice Theatre at 140 W. Tampa Ave., Venice FL 34285, but since this Friday, May 15, is the deadline, online may be more efficient.

You can also email [email protected] with any questions.
