Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium recently released a new free app that encourages users to report instances of red tide. The app, Citizen Science Information Collaboration, allows users to report when and where they experience respiratory irritation or see discolored water or dead fish—potential indications of red tide. Tracy Fanara, the manager of Mote’s Environmental Health Program, worked with Vincent Lovko, the manager of Mote’s Phytoplankton Ecology Program, and web development contractors at Function on Phones to create the app.
