Charles and Julie Whiten were recently appointed as the new area commanders for The Salvation Army in Sarasota. They replace Ethan and Sue Frizzell, who have been transferred to Nashville, Tennessee. The Whitens have served as Salvation Army officers since 1993. They have been stationed in Rock Hill, South Carolina; Princeton, West Virginia; Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Charles Whiten graduated from South Carolina's Winthrop College with a bachelor of arts in music; Julie Whiten attended North Carolina's Central Piedmont Community College and studied early childhood education.
