Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ director of education and visitor engagement, Jeannie Peralis, was recently named to the review panel for youth access grants overseen by the Smithsonian Institution and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Perales will visit Washington, D.C., in late September to finalize panel recommendations for the Institution’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Education and Access. This is the sixth year the Institution has offered youth access grants, created to support Smithsonian educators and collaborators who use innovative technology to reach underserved youth and educators working in under-resourced communities. A $30 million endowment from the Gates Foundation supports this program. Perales will evaluate projects that are thought to be ready for replication or scale in multiple communities.
